The CorasWorks Workplace Suite offers several navigation
web parts, each of which is described below.
· Special Site Navigation
· Up To Navigation
· Workplace View Advanced
The SPS Workplace View Advanced is discussed in a separate
help topic.

Special
Site Navigation (SSN)
XE "Special Site Navigation:Overview"
The CorasWorks Special Site
Navigation™ web part allows you to create
dynamic navigational menus for your SharePoint sites. You can use multiple
instances of this web part on a page to manage multiple navigation areas.
CorasWorks commonly uses it to manage the menu bar at the top of the page, the
tabs, and either the views on each tab or cascading menus from each tab. Additional uses are of course possible.
You can create navigation
menus for a specific site, or you can create a global menu that can be used
across all of your SharePoint sites. The menu items for the Special Site
Navigation web part are stored within one or more lists, rather than within a
page, so you can point several iterations of the Special Site Navigation web
part to the same list(s) to obtain their menu settings. (Multiple navigation
lists are supported as of the Winter 2006 release.) With this structure, the
menu systems you build are dynamic and can be updated from a single location,
so you can make changes across several pages at once just by modifying a single
navigation list.
In addition, as of the Winter
2006 release, this web part recognizes cross-site groups and Active Directory
groups for each SSN list, so you can make tabs invisible to users that
are not part of the identified cross-site groups.
TIP: One of the
most powerful uses of this web part is to create a global menu for your
workplace. You can use this web part at
the top of each page of your site templates and point all of them to a single
list in a single location. Change the
list, and all menus will automatically and immediately update throughout the
system.
Up To
Navigation (UTN)
XE "Up To Navigation:Overview"
The CorasWorks Up To Navigation™ web part is a replacement
for the SharePoint Up To Link, which is located in most SharePoint sites. When
a user places their mouse over this web part, a drop-down navigation menu is
displayed that shows links to all of the parent sites within the current site
hierarchy. With this web part, users
don’t have to move back up through a hierarchy of sites one site at a time.
Workplace
View Advanced (WVA)
XE "Workplace View Advanced:Overview"
CorasWorks Workplace View Advanced™ is a tree view web part
that shows the lists and sites available to the user in the current site. It also provides account administration
options and site administration options, depending on user access and the web
part’s property settings.
With this web part, users can do the following:
· Access menu options for the current
site and navigate to sub-sites one or more levels below the current level.
· Access My Account Administration
and set their alerts, password, and email/display name controls.
· See a complete list of lists,
directly access each list, and create new lists.
· See a description and link to each
sub-site, if any exist.
· Add this web part to a framed page,
change the target location for any link in the web part, and change the
homepage URL (i.e., default.aspx).
· Specify a URL to another site that
resides on the server and retrieve a tree view display of that web site for
remote administration and/or navigation.
In addition, administrators can perform the following tasks:
· Enable or disable Central
Configuration
· Work with site/list/web part
catalogs
· Manage users and permissions
· Maintain site titles and
descriptions
· Create and delete sites
· Other administrative tasks

NOTE 1: This
topic applies only to the Winter 2006
and later Special Site Navigation (SSN) web part. If you are working with a
prior release, please see SSN Admin: Sites and Lists Tab (Summer 2005) or SSN: Web Part Properties instead.
NOTE 2: Winter
2006 features are available when the SSN web part is used without any custom
displays. When custom displays are used, as is the case with “tubby tabs,”
Winter 2006 features are not enabled and the web part reverts to Summer 05
functionality.
NOTE 3: Winter
2006 includes a number of new features that are discussed in detail in the
What’s New document, the Capabilities Guide, and several papers on the
CorasWorks Central site. To learn more about cascading menus, the Dynamic Page Title
web part, and more, click here to access the Documentation tab in Central’s
Support area and scroll down to the Winter 06 section. Central’s Knowledge
Base also contains a great deal of helpful information for both Winter 2006
and earlier releases. You will need an ID and password to access any of this
information. If you do not have one, please contact us at support@corasworks.net.
The administration interface includes a Sites and Lists tab
that is used to select the lists, top-level list view, and columns to utilize
to manage navigation.
This field is used to define the URL for the site where the
list(s) for the navigation structure is located. This can be any SharePoint
site that resides on the same server as this web part. If this field is left
blank, it will default to the URL where the web part is placed.
The format for the URL is http://Site-URL/SiteName.
Examples:
To remove selected URL from this area, highlight the URL you
want to remove from the box below this field and click Remove.
This property works in the same manner as the Use Relative
URL property on the Workplace View Advanced web part. When it is selected, the
Site URL is parsed and reassembled based on the current server, ignoring the
domain name. This allows you to export navigation menus for use on a different
server.
For example, say an SSN on the portal.corasworks.net server
has a Site URL of http://solutions.corasworks.net/ssn/. When the Use Relative URL option is enabled,
the “http://solutions.corasworks.net” portion is replaced with the current
domain name. For example, lists from http://portal.corasworks.net/ssn/ can be
used.
This drop-down is used to identify the name of each list you
want to use to manage the navigation structure. This includes any lists you
have created and marked as “hidden.”
You can reference multiple lists, and set up the appropriate
security for each navigation list, restricting visibility and access with
security controls. In this way, users will only see the navigation options to
the areas you want them to be able to access. Both cross-site groups and Active
Directory groups are supported.
All of the navigation lists you want to reference in a
single instance of the SSN web part must exist on the same site; you cannot
identify multiple URLs.
When you utilize multiple navigation lists, the SSN web part
looks at the contents of all of the lists you select on this tab and meshes
them together to determine what should be displayed, ignoring any duplicate
list items that have the same page title and page link.
This drop-down shows all of the navigation lists selected
for use with this instance of the web part. To remove a list, just click on it
to highlight it. The page is refreshed and the selected list is removed from
the drop-down. An option to Remove All Lists is also available.
This field is used to identify the name of the list view
that manages the top level (starting point) of the navigation structure.
This property cannot be set to “All Items” if you plan to
use cascading menus. The navigation list can have an All Items view, but the
List View property must be set to the name of a specific view that represents
the top level of your cascading menu.
This field is used to identify the names of the columns that
correspond to each required display element of the navigation structure; each
field name should be separated by a pipe (|). These columns come directly from
the named list and are used to display the link title and a link to where the
link should go. These columns must be part of the List View identified above.
If using cascading menus, this property must include the
name of the child view column. For example:
Display|Page Title|Page Link||Child View
The Group field is no longer needed here; it is simply kept
in the SSN list template for backward-compatibility. The place where the Group
field used to be named in the List Fields property can be left blank by using
another pipe (|) character, as in the example above.
For more information on cascading menus and how to set up
your navigation list(s), please see the CorasWorks Workplace Suite Capabilities
Guide.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to the Summer 2005
Special Site Navigation (SSN) web part. If you are working with a different
release, please see SSN Admin:
Sites and Lists Tab (Winter 2006) or SSN: Web
Part Properties instead.
As of the Summer 05 release, the administration interface
includes a Sites and Lists tab that is used to select the list, list view, and
columns to utilize to manage navigation.
This field is used to define the URL for the site where the
list for the navigation structure is located. This can be any SharePoint site
that resides on the same server as this web part. If this field is left blank,
it will default to the URL where the web part is placed.
The format for the URL is http://Site-URL/SiteName.
Examples:
To remove selected URL from this area, highlight the URL you
want to remove from the box below this field and click Remove.
This field is used to identify the name of the list that
manages the navigation structure.
This field is used to identify the name of the list view
that manages the display of the navigation structure. This is used to manage the
order of the returned lists.
This field is used to identify the names of the fields that
correspond to each required display element of the navigation structure; each
field name should be separated by a pipe (|). These fields come directly from
the named list and are used to display the link title and a link to where the
link should go. These fields must be part of the List View identified above.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to the Summer 2005 and
later versions of the Special Site Navigation web part. If you are working
with a prior release, please see SSN: Web Part
Properties instead.
The Localization tab allows you to customize the names of
each of the options on the web part menu. It also allows you to customize all
of the text on the administration interface, including tab and section names
and descriptions, field names, drop-down field options, and button labels. Content is grouped by the tab on which it
appears.
To customize any of this information, simply locate the text
you want to change and type over it with the desired content. Use the filter at
the top of the tab to easily find content. Just type the content you're looking
for and then click Filter.
To reset a value back to its default, delete the value in
the text box and apply the changes. The next time the corresponding tab loads,
the default value will be displayed.
When you are finished making the necessary changes on this
tab, click any other administration tab to save your changes and keep the
administration interface open, or click OK to save your changes and return to
the web part display.
You may find it helpful to open another browser session
and view the results of your customizations as you save your changes.
NOTE 1: This
topic applies only to the Winter 2006
and later Special Site Navigation web part. If you are working with a prior
release, please see SSN Admin: Other Tab (Summer 2005) or SSN: Web Part Properties
(Pre-Summer 2005 Only) instead.
NOTE 2: Winter
2006 features are available when the SSN web part is used without any custom
displays. When custom displays are used, as is the case with tubby tabs, Winter
2006 features are not enabled and the web part reverts to Summer 05
functionality.
When you are finished making the necessary changes on this
tab, click any other administration tab to save your changes and keep the
administration interface open, or click OK to save your changes and return to
the web part display.
This field allows you to change the default SPS My Site
characteristics of the web part. By default, the web part will modify the URL
"/mysite" to point to "/personal/User". This allows the web
part to search through the MySite section of SharePoint Portal Server. However,
SPS allows the administrator to alter the URL definition for each SPS server. To
accommodate this, the SPS My Site Path field allows you to alter the web part
to support your organization’s SPS MySite setup.
This entry allows you to define the target window for the
links provided in the web part. For example, if you wanted any links that are
clicked on to open in a new window, you would type “_new” in this field. Valid
options include:
· _blank
· _new
· _parent
· _self
When this checkbox is selected (default), each navigation
item is displayed within a horizontal bar or tabs across the zone in which the
web part is placed. When this checkbox is left blank, each item is displayed in
a vertical list.
When a vertical display is used, the web part utilizes 80%
of the width of the web part zone. As a result, if you have brief menu options
for a cascading menu and a wide web part zone, the arrows that denote another
level of menu options may be a bit far from the menu text.
This property applies only when horizontal navigation is
utilized. When this property is selected, the top-level navigation items are
presented in a tabbed format, rather than a solid horizontal bar. Any
lower-level views or cascading child options are not affected.
When this property is disabled, the top level navigation
options are presented as a solid bar, without any tabs. This is how the menu
bar at the top of each page in CorasWorks solutions is configured.
This property applies to both horizontal and vertical navigation.
When this property is selected, the currently selected option on the top level
of navigation is presented in a different color from the other top-level
options. It provides a visible reminder of the navigation path when the user is
on a lower level navigation option or view.
This property applies only when a vertical navigation is
utilized. When this property is enabled, the top-level navigation options are
presented in a bulleted list. When this property is disabled, no bullets are
presented.
This property was introduced in the Winter 2006 Update. When it is enabled and the SSN references one
or more cascading menu lists, a breadcrumb trail will be appended to the page
title displayed near the top of the page. Each item in the breadcrumb trail is
hyperlinked for easy navigation.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to the Summer 2005
Special Site Navigation web part. If you are working with a different release,
please see SSN Admin: Other Tab
(Winter 2006) or SSN: Web Part Properties
instead.
· _blank
· _new
· _parent
· _self
When this checkbox is selected, each item is displayed
within the horizontal navigation bar. When this checkbox is left blank, each
item is displayed in a bulleted list.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to versions of the Special Site Navigation web part from before the Summer 2005 release. If you
are working with the Summer 2005 or a later release, please see the appropriate
“Admin Tab” topic instead.
This option allows you to switch between horizontal and
vertical navigation structures. This
checkbox is selected by default, so each item is displayed within the
horizontal navigation bar. In a vertical navigation structure, each item is
displayed as an entry in a bulleted list.
This field is used to identify the Site URL where the list
for the navigation structure is located. If you leave this field blank, it will
default to the site on which the web part is placed.
This field is used to identify the name of the list that
manages the navigation structure.
This field is used to identify the name of the list view
that manages the display of the navigation structure. This is used to manage the
order of the returned lists. The default is “All Items.”
This field is used to identify the names of the fields that
correspond to each required display element of the navigation structure; each
field name should be separated by a pipe (|). These fields come directly from
the named list and are used to display the link title and a link to where the
link should go. These fields must be part of the List View identified above. The default is “Display|Page Title|Page Link”.
You can add item-level security to your SSN. For example,
you can specify the Administrator roll of any cross-site group and grant permissions
to view the specific item being displayed by the SSN. This allows you to create
group/role-oriented views of information.
To add group functionality to your SSN:
1. Add "|Group" to the SSN List Fields.
This will enable the SSN to recognize the Group field for group control. Adding to the default entry, it would look
like this: Display|Page Title|Page Link|Group.
2. Access the corresponding SSN list and add the
"Group" field as a text box. Be sure to add it to your default view, as
well as any other views being used for the SSN.
3. Modify one of the items in the SSN list and
type "Administrator" in the Group field. Once this has been done,
return to the SSN and log-in as a non-administrator to view the results. The
item will only be visible when you log in as an Adminstrator.
To set similar item-level permissions to any cross-site
groups, leave the field empty to allow everyone to see the item. This does not
apply to the Reader, Contributor, or Web Designer roles, as SharePoint security
will not permit a non-administrator to view the user’s credentials in these roles.
This field is used to identify the target where you want to
have each link in the navigation structure opened. Valid options include "_parent",
"_top", "Custom", or any other variable permitted by a target
reference in an anchor () tag.
The default is “_parent”.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to the Summer 2005 and
later versions of the Up To Navigation (UTN) web part. If you are working

Properties” instead.
When you are finished making the necessary changes on this
tab, click any other administration tab to save your changes and keep the
administration interface open, or click OK to save your changes and return to
the web part display.
All of the default properties are designed for the standard

used in place of all the above settings. This overrides all other setting
except the Apply Transparency property.
This field is used to identify the text alignment that you
want to use within the web part. The default is “right.” Other options are “center” and “left.”
This field is used to identify the background color to be
used within the web part display. If you leave this field blank, the background
will be transparent and whatever color is below the web part will be used.
This field is used to identify the background color used for
the drop down. The default is #003399 (Medium Blue).
This field is used to identify the background color used when
a mouse is placed over the sites returned in the drop down. The default is #000066
(Dark Blue).
This field is used to identify the name and style of text
used within the web part.
The default is “font-family: Verdana,serif; font-size; 8pt; color: white;
font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; width: 100%”.
When this checkbox is selected, the sites in the drop-down will
be displayed with a 20% transparency, allowing the user to see what is beneath
the results.
This field allows you to change the default SPS My Site

NOTE: This topic
applies only to the Summer 2005 and
later versions of the Workplace View Advanced (WVA) web part. If you are
working with a prior release, please see WVA: Web
Part Properties instead.
As of the Summer 05 release, the administration interface
includes a Sites and Lists tab that is used to select the sites and number of
levels to include in the WVA display.
NOTE: This
property is available in Summer 2006 and
later releases only.
There are three things you can do with this property,
depending on how you want to identify the sites and lists to be referenced by
the roll-up.
· To identify the sites to include in
the WVA display via the standard properties shown on the Sites & Lists tab,
keep the default of Selected by User.
· To direct the WVA to get the sites
from a Directory List, select Based on
Directory List. The page is refreshed and a slightly different set of
properties is displayed on the tab.
o If
you configure the WVA to reference a Directory List, see “How the WVA
References the Directory List,” below.
· If you plan to use Central
Configuration, skip down to the Use
Relative URL checkbox. When you enable Central Configuration on the Other tab, all of the properties down
to the Use Relative URL checkbox will be grayed out because they are controlled
by the Central Configuration.
This optional field is used to define the URL for the site
(or the top-level site) you want to access and from which you want to return
list items. This can be any SharePoint site that resides on the same server as
this web part. If this field is left blank, it will default to the URL where
the web part is placed.
The format for the URL is http://Site-URL/SiteName.
Examples:
To include more than one site, type the first URL you want
to work with in the Site URL field and then click Add URL. The URL you just
identified is placed in the box below the field. Type another URL in the Site
URL field and click Add URL again. Repeat this process as many times as
necessary.
To remove selected URLs from this area, highlight the URL
you want to remove from the box below this field and click Remove.
Alternatively, you can click Remove All to remove all URLs.
NOTE: This
property is available in Summer 2006 and
later releases only. It is only displayed when the Site Selection Method is
set to Based on Directory List.
This property is used to identify the absolute URL to the
site where the Directory List is located that you want to reference for Scope
Management. The WVA will look to the Directory List to determine the
appropriate site URLs to include. Click Refresh Available Lists once you have entered this value to
populate the Directory List Name drop-down.
NOTE: This
property is available in Summer 2006 and
later releases only. It is only displayed when the Site Selection Method is
set to Based on Directory List.
This drop-down is used to select the name of the Directory
List to reference for Scope Management. It shows all available lists, including
hidden lists. The WVA will look to this list to determine the appropriate site
URLs to include. When you select a list name here, the page is refreshed,
including the available values in the Directory List View drop-down.
Remember that any user that accesses a WVA that references a
Directory List must have Read access to the Directory List. However, they do
not necessarily need to be granted Read access to the site containing the
Directory List.
NOTE: This
property is available in Summer 2006 and
later releases only. It is only displayed when the Site Selection Method is
set to Based on Directory List.
This property is used to select the name of the view in the
Directory List to utilize for Scope Management. The WVA will look to this view
in the Directory List to determine the appropriate site URLs to include.
Toggle this checkbox on to ignore the hostname entered in
the Site URL field. This is useful if you expect that you will move from one
hostname to another in the future.
For example, if the URL in the Site URL field is http://www.hostname.com/site1
and you select this checkbox, the "http://www.hostname.com" portion will
be replaced with the current hostname.
This field is used to enter the number of levels to be searched
to find sites and lists for the web part. The maximum number of levels is 7. If
you want to include more than one level, be sure to enter a numerical value in
this field.
If Central Configuration is enabled for the WVA (Summer 2006 and later releases only),
this property may be affected in one of these three ways:
· A label may be displayed above the
entry field, stating the maximum levels of sites allowed. If you attempt to
identify a larger number than the maximum, the property will be automatically
reset to the maximum number of levels allowed when you click Apply or OK.
· The property may be grayed out, denoting
that the number of site levels searched is managed by the Central
Configuration.
· There may not be any Central
Configuration settings that affect the site levels searched, in which the
property is displayed (and defined) as usual.
The WVA will display exactly the sites that you identify in
the Directory List. This has two key repercussions.
First, if the Directory List does not include the URL for
the site on which the WVA is placed, then the WVA will not display any
information or administrative options for that current site.
Second, if the Directory List contains a number of entries
for a hierarchy of sites and the Site Levels Displayed is set to anything
greater than 0, it is possible to see repetition in the WVA sites tree. An
example is shown here.
In this example, the Directory List contains an entry for
Site 1, Site 1A, and Sub-Site 1A-1. The Site Levels Displayed is set to 2. As a
result, the WVA shows each of the 3 sites identified in the Directory List,
plus all of the sites up to 2 levels deep from the identified sites.
To avoid this, set the Site Levels Displayed to 0 and remove
the check mark from the Show Site option on the Display tab of the
administration interface. The WVA display will now look the example shown
below.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to the Summer 2005 and
later releases of the Workplace View Advanced web part. If you are working
with a prior release, please see “WVA: Web Part
Properties” instead.
The fields on this tab are used to select the options and
folders to include in the web part display. For example, you can display or
hide the Administration, Self Management, and Lists folders.
When you are finished making your selections on this tab,
click any other administration tab to save your changes and keep the
administration interface open, or click OK to save your changes and return to
the web part display.
When this checkbox is selected, the Administration folder will
be displayed for each site returned by the web part.
When this checkbox is selected, each site with folders or
sub-sites will be returned in an expanded form. The number of sites returned
depends on the number of levels chosen in the "Site Levels Displayed"
field on the Sites and Lists tab.
When this checkbox is selected, the Lists folder will be
displayed for each site returned by the web part.
When this checkbox is selected, the display of each list
name returned by the web part will be followed by the number of items in the
list.
When this checkbox is selected, the web part will include
hidden lists in the Lists folder for each site included in the display. The
checkbox is left blank by default.
When this checkbox is selected, the Self Management folder will
be displayed for each site returned by the web part.
When this checkbox is selected, the web part display will
include the sites available below the URL defined in the Site URL field on the
Sites and Lists tab.
When this checkbox is selected, the administrative options
and the sites below the current URL will be displayed in an expanded form.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to the Summer 2005 and
later versions of the Workplace View Advanced web part. If you are working
with a prior release, please see “WVA: Web Part
Properties” instead.
The Localization tab allows you to customize the names of
each of the options displayed by the web part. It also allows you to customize
all of the text on the administration interface, including tab and section
names and descriptions, field names, drop-down field options, and button
labels. Content is grouped by the tab on
which it appears.
To customize any of this information, simply locate the text
you want to change and type over it with the desired content.
Use the Filter at the top of the tab to easily find content.
Just type the content you're looking for and then click Filter.

This field is used to identify the name for the homepage of
the site (*.aspx). This is useful if, in a framed environment, the homepage you
have setup is default.aspx, but the display page for the body frame of the page
is index.aspx.
To
accommodate this, the SPS My Site Path field allows you to alter the web part to
support your organization’s SPS MySite setup.
This entry allows you to define the target window for the
links provided in the web part. For example, if you wanted any links that are
clicked on to open in a new window, you would type “_new” in this field. Valid
options include:
· _blank
· _new
· _parent
· _self
NOTE: This
property is available in the Summer 2006
and later releases only.
Select this checkbox to enable Central Configuration
(discussed in detail in Chapter 5 of the Capabilities Guide). If you enable
Central Configuration, click Apply

on the Sites & Lists tab will be disabled because they are managed by the
entries in the Central Configuration List.
NOTE: This topic
applies only to versions of the Workplace View Advanced web part from before the Summer 2005 release. If you
are working with the Summer 2005 or a later release, please see the WVA Admin:
Tab topics.

The Actions menu allows both administrators and users to
execute common actions in lieu of utilizing search commands. The Show Version action
is available to all users on the system.
To use the Actions menu and view version information, go to the
web part and drop down the web part menu options by clicking on the down arrow
on the top right hand side of the web part.
Drag your mouse over "Actions" and then choose the desired
option.
If you are working with the Summer 2005 or a later release,
this option causes the administration interface to be displayed. If you are
working with a prior release, this option causes the web part’s administration window
to be displayed. In either case, the resulting display allows administrators to
determine the lists and schemas utilized by the web part. This option is only
available to administrators.
This selection will show version information within the web
part area, including application, version, organization, authors, and build date.
The link to Close Version Window returns the page back to it original state.
NOTE: Because all
CorasWorks web parts utilize this command for version viewing, every CorasWorks
web part on the page will respond to the Show Version action. This will allow
you to view version information for all CorasWorks web parts at once.
Special Site Navigation supports cascading menus as a way to
integrate the options that used to be offered on tabs and views. When a user
hovers over a tab, they will see a cascading menu of available child views.
When a user hovers over a child view in a cascading menu, they will see another
menu level of any available sub-views. The menu(s) can go down as many levels
as you want, depending on how your list(s) are set up. Users will only see menu
items from the lists to which they have access.
A sample three-level cascading menu is shown here.
To set up an SSN menu that offers cascading menus, the first
thing you need to do is one of the following:
· Add a multiple-choice Child View
column to your existing navigation list(s), with the choices being the names of
all of your list views.
· Or, create a new navigation list
using the Special Site Navigation list template, which includes the Child View
column.
NOTE: CorasWorks has found that navigation
lists with a large number of views can inhibit performance. As a result, we
recommend that you keep the number of views in your navigation lists to a
minimum. The number of items in a list does not appear to be as much of a
factor as the number of views.
Next, populate the Child View column with the name of the
list view that represents the child menu associated with the item. Cascading
menus and child views are supported for multiple lists.
NOTE:
When setting up a list to support cascading menus, please make sure
you do not accidentally create a child view that references itself, its parent,
or any of its ancestors. For example, if you create a view called “Admin” and
one of the items in that view has a child view of Admin, it will cause an
error.
The screen capture below shows the contents of the list that
was used to create the sample cascading menu shown in the example above.
· In this example, the top level
navigation items (the tabs) are all in a list view called Main.
· The options that display off the
first tab are all in a list view called Child 1. The options that display off
the second tab are all in a list view called Child 2.
· The options that display off the
first option on the first child level are all in a view called Child 1A. If
there were options off the first child level options, they would be in views
called Child 1B and Child 1C.
You can name your child views whatever you like, just keep
the naming convention simple enough that you and others will be able to
understand it when updates are made in the future.
Once you have set up your navigation list, you need to
configure the SSN web part with two important properties, both of which are on
the Sites & Lists tab:
· List View – This property should be populated with the name of the
view you want to use as the top level of your navigation. In the sample list
above, we use the Main view, which defines the tabs.
o If
you utilize a single navigation list, you cannot identify the “All Items” view
in this property and offer a cascading menu; you must name a specific view.
· List Fields – This property tells the web part what the required
display elements are for the navigation structure. Each column name is
separated by a pipe (|) and must exist in the selected list(s). This property
will usually read as follows:
Display|Page Title|Page Link||Child View
NOTE 1: There are two pipe characters
in a row near the end of this entry. This is intentional and is used for
backward-compatibility.
NOTE 2: Please reference the
Capabilities Guide for more information regarding cascading menus. Additional
documentation is also available in the Support section of the CorasWorks
Central site. You will need an ID and password to access the information on
Central. If you do not have one, please contact us at support@corasworks.net.
By default, all of the options on a cascading menu can be
selected and will take the user to the corresponding URL. However, there may be
times when you want one of the options on your menu to simply lead to another
set of options. For example, the figure below shows a menu with an option
labeled “Other Forms” that leads to another level of forms the user can
navigate to. If the user selects Other Forms, you do not want them to be
brought to an Other Forms page; you just want to use that option to organize
the available forms.
This is easy to achieve. When you create the list item for
the non-navigable menu item, simply place a “#” symbol in front of the value in
the Page Link field. In this example, the Page Link is set to #OtherForms. If a
user clicks on the Other Forms menu option (not the arrow to the right),
nothing will happen.
The page you identify in the Page Link field doesn’t need to
exist; this value is simply a place holder. It only needs to be unique.
CorasWorks recommends that you use the same text as in the Page Title field.
Connectability is a standard protocol that is supported
within a SharePoint environment. CorasWorks navigation and roll-up components
can utilize the connectability interface so CorasWorks web parts can “talk” to
one another and one web part can receive information from another web part.
This information can be used to alter the data displayed within the current web
part.
You can make the web part connection from either web part by
using the Connections option on the web part menu.
You can only activate a connection when the page is in
Design mode. Once in Design mode, access the web part menu and select
Connections. Then specify the type of connection you want and the web part you
want to connect to.
The two currently supported types of connections for the
Workplace View Advanced web part are described below.
This type of connection allows you to provide URLs to
another web part. This allows you to set up your site within the WVA and have
its setting reflect within another web part. This type of connection does not
accept information from any other web part.
For example, imagine that there are multiple roll-up views
on a page. All of these roll-ups can be connected to the WVA. When you change
the sites and lists in the WVA, the roll-ups will update to show the
information selected. This reduces the time to reconfigure individual web parts
and ensures that they all have the correct configuration.
This type of connection allows you to receive a list of URLS
from another web part. It allows you to set up your site information within one
web part and have its setting reflect within another web part.
CorasWorks web parts have a number of properties that can
only be modified by manually editing the DWP file associated with this web
part. You can edit a DWP file by exporting the web part to a location of your
choice, making the desired changes, and then uploading it back onto your site.
The properties described here allow you to change the
function and display of the web part. Please keep in mind the XML namespace of
the web part you are changing, or these properties will not be enabled within
the web part. XML namespaces for all
CorasWorks web parts are provided in the 0For
DevelopersHelp_D2HPrivate(-9,656)Overview0
help topic.
Also note that some of these properties some may require the
use of a "<", ">", or "&" symbol. If
that is the case, you will need to replace these characters with their encoded
equivalents of "<", ">", and
"&" respectively.
These properties are only viewable in the DWP if the default
settings have been changed.
NOTE: As of the
Summer 05 release of the Workplace Suite, a Localization tab on the
administration interface allows you to make many of the localization changes
described below. Before you make these changes in the DWP, you may want to
review the available settings that can be modified on the Localization tab.
This property is used to define the name for the homepage of
the site (*.aspx). This is useful if in a framed environment the homepage you
have setup is default.aspx but the display page for the body frame of the page
is index.aspx.
This property is used to define the number of levels that
you want to search to find sites and lists to include in the web part display.
The maximum number of levels is 7.
If you want to search more than one level, be sure to enter
a numerical value (1-7). If you spell out a number, it will result in an error
and no lists will be found.
This property allows you to change the default MySite
characteristics of the web part. The default characteristic modifies the URL
"/mysite" to point to "/personal/User". This allows the web
part to search through the MySite section of SharePoint Portal Server. SPS
allows administrators to alter the URL definition for each SPS server. To
accommodate for this, the DWP Property "MySite" was designed to allow
Administrators to alter the web part to support their particular SPS MySite
setup.
Use:
<MySite xmlns='webpart_namespace'>/sites/<%Domain%>
AND/OR <%User%></MySite>
Example:
<MySite xmlns='CorasWSC.WorkPlace.View'>/personal/<%User%></MySite>
Settings:
<%User%> = User Name
<%Domain%> = Domain Name
This hidden property is available in the Winter 2006 and later releases. It
allows long node text to wrap to the next line. The default value is 28
characters (NOT pixels), which makes the WVA fit best within the usual 220
pixel wide space that comprises the Quick Launch area on standard WSS home
pages. With a setting of 28, the WVA will wrap text as close as it can to the
28th character without hyphenating or cutting any words in half. Different
fonts take up a different amount of space, so you may want to tweak this value.
This property is used to show the Administration folder for
each site returned. The valid values are true and false.
Set this property to true to have each site with folders or
sub-sites returned in an expanded form. The number of sites returned depends on
the number of Levels chosen in the "Levels Returned" field.
This property is used to show the Lists folder for each site
returned. The valid values are true and false.
ShowListItemCount
(Boolean)
Set this property
to true to show the total number of items in each list returned.
Set this property
to true to show the Self Management folder for each site returned. The valid values are true and false.
Set this property
to true to show the sites available below the site where the web part is
pointing. The valid values are true and false.
Set this property
to true to have all sites above the current web part returned in an
expanded form.
This property is used to identify the URL(s) for the site(s)
from which you want to return management links, sites, and lists. This can be
any SharePoint site that resides on the same server as this web part. The
format for the URL must be: http://Site-URL/SiteName
Examples:
http://www.sitename.com;http://www.sitename2.com
· http://www.sitename.com/site1
· http://www.sitename.com/site 1
Set this property
to true to display site access errors.
This property is used to identify the target in which you
wish to have each of the web part’s links open. This can be
"_parent", "_top", "Custom", or any other
variable permitted by a Target reference in an anchor () tag.
This property is used to make the hostname entered in the
URL irrelevant. This is useful if you expect that you will move from one
hostname to another in the future. The valid values are true and false.
Example:
http://www.hostname.com/site1 - the "http://www.hostname.com" will be
replaced with the current hostname.
NOTE: This topic
only applies to releases of the Workplace Suite prior to the Summer 2005 release.
As of the Summer 2005 release, the Localization tab on the
administration interface for each navigation web part allows you to make all of
the localization changes described below. As a result, the Summer 2005 and
later releases do not support manual modification of DWP properties for
localization.
CorasWorks web parts have a number of properties that can
only be modified by manually editing the DWP file associated with this web
part. The properties described here relate specifically to localization. You
can edit a DWP file by exporting the web part to a location of your choice,
making the desired changes, and then uploading it back onto your site.
The properties described here allow you to change the
function and display of the web part. Please keep in mind the XML namespace of
the web part you are changing, or these properties will not be enabled within
the web part. XML namespaces for all
CorasWorks web parts are provided in the 1For
DevelopersHelp_D2HPrivate(-9,656)Overview1
help topic.
Also note that some of these properties some may require the
use of a "<", ">", or "&" symbol. With
the exception of the LCIDXML property, you must replace these characters with
their encoded equivalents of "<", ">", and
"&" respectively.
These properties are only viewable in the DWP if the default
settings have been changed.
LCIDXML
(String)
This property allows you to localize the user interface. The
easiest way to use this property is to follow these steps:
1. Copy the sample code below into Notepad and
make the appropriate translations to the content between each tag.
2. Remove all of the carriage returns and replace
any double quotes (“) with single quotes (‘). Make sure there aren’t any brackets
([ ]) anywhere in the text. If there are, replace them with parentheses ( ). The
XML nodes must appear in the exact order as they are shown below; you can not
omit nodes or reorder them.
3. Export the web part you want to localize and
add this: <LCIDXML xmlns="webpart_namespace"></LCIDXML>
(where "webpart_namespace" is the web part name identified in the
.chm file included in the Developer and Small Business editions of the Suite)
For example: <LCIDXML xmlns="CorasWSC.WorkPlace.View"></LCIDXML>
4. Copy the modified LCIDXML content from Step 2
and place it after the opening bracket after CDATA.
5. Save the localized web part and import it into
your site. CorasWorks recommends that you use a naming convention that makes it
clear which language(s) are supported by the web part.

</CorasWorks>
The CorasWorks node supports multiple
WorkplaceViewAdvanced nodes, allowing for the same web part to be used on
multiple sites. When the web part loads, the language of the site that the web
part is hosted in will automatically be used, provided an ID attribute for the
site’s WorkplaceViewAdvanced node has been defined, otherwise, the
WorkplaceViewAdvanced node with an attribute of 'default' will be used.
To localize the web part for multiple languages, repeat
these tags (and the content in between) for each language. However, instead of
using ‘default’ after the web part ID, use one of the 4-digit LCIDs provided
below. Copy the rest of the LCIDXML text and place it between these tags for
each desired language, making the appropriate translations for each language.
The following list shows the LCID for each language:
LCID Language
1025 Arabic
2052 Chinese - Simplified
1028 Chinese - Traditional
1029 Czech
1030 Danish
1043 Dutch
1033 English

1045 Polish
2070 Portuguese
1046 Portuguese – Brazilian
1049 Russian
1034 Spanish
1053 Swedish

When Central Configuration is enabled, some of the
properties that are usually managed via the Sites & Lists tab are managed
instead by the entries in the Central Configuration List. As a result, those
properties will be grayed out (unavailable).
Yes, a document is available in CorasWorks Central. The
document you’re looking for is called “Cascading Menus – Winter 2006” and it’s
located in the Winter 06 section of this
page (click here). You may find some other helpful documents there, as
well.
You will be prompted to sign in to CorasWorks Central. If
you have any questions or issues regarding your ID or password, please contact
us at support@corasworks.net.
If you change the value in the Page Order column for one or
more items in a cascading navigation list, you need to sort the view by that column
before that change will be reflected in the navigation display. Just open the
list and click on the Page Order column to sort it. The navigation items will
be displayed in the order in which they’re sorted in the list.
This is because you do not have the same rights as someone
else. You can only see the sites that you have permission to access.
When the Up to Navigation web part is placed on a page that
is in a sub-site within a WSS Site Collection, it displays the sites
above. However, when the web page is at the top of a WSS Site Collection,
the Up To Navigation can't show anything higher. As a result, it
"hides" itself from the user.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to have the Up To
Navigation to point to the portal level, nor is there a list that can be
edited. The web part dynamically determines where it is in the structure
and displays the WSS sites above its current location. Since the SPS Site
Collections are stored in a different area than where they are being tracked
(sites vs. Site Directory), the web part cannot point up to the portal.
CorasWorks has received requests for the Up To Navigation to show the portal
areas and it is being considered for a future release.
If you are using the Winter 2006 or a later release, the
answer is yes, you can. You can configure the SSN web part used to display the
tabs and views (or cascading menus) to reference multiple lists. Assign the
appropriate cross-site group (or Active Directory group) to each navigation
list, and only the members of that group will be able to see the navigation options
presented by that list.
As with all web parts, the WVA can be placed onto a page by
dragging and dropping it into the desired zone on a page. If you are trying to
place a web part onto a page, but there aren’t any zones or there isn’t a zone
where you want it, you will need to edit the page and add the zone in Microsoft
FrontPage. For more information regarding usage of the Workplace Viewer
Advanced and the SPS Workplace Viewer Advanced, check out the Navigation Web
Parts Quick Start.
Microsoft's SharePoint Template uses the Site Description as
a way of saying what the site is to be used for. It places the Site
Description onto the site's home page, typically under the yellow line.
SharePoint sites are dynamic. They are meant to change as
users need them to, so a site may change focus entirely, or it can be
repurposed. Sometimes when an administrator creates a sub-site, the user
doesn't know exactly what the site will be used for.
The Site Description information is not used with the
CorasWorks site templates. This is due to a fundamental difference
between our site templates and most of Microsoft's. Microsoft's
SharePoint templates tend to be focused on a single page. The list information
is on the left and the views into the lists are on the one page.
CorasWorks site templates feature multiple pages, allowing different ways of
organizing information.
To offset this, CorasWorks has placed the site description
in the Workplace View Advance (WVA). The WVA uses the Site Description as
a “tool tip” that appears when a mouse pointer hovers over a site link.
If you’re using Winter 2006 or a later release, the answer
is yes. The Winter 2006 version of SSN will automatically resize the tabs based
upon the text identified as the tab label. If the SSN would be wider than the
visible area if text did not wrap, the web part will automatically wrap the
text for you based on where spaces and punctuation is available.
If your tabs have long labels and no spaces, the web part
can be rendered so it is wider than the visible area, causing the browser to
display a horizontal scroll bar.
If you want to force a line break and control where the text
is wrapped, you can use a
tag within the tab label.
If you’re using Winter 2006 or a later release, the answer
is yes. The SSN will automatically wrap view labels so that they can all fit
within the available space without a scroll bar. If you want to force a line
break and control where the text is wrapped, you can use a
tag
within the view label.
If you are using Winter 2006 or a later release and taking
advantage of cascading menus on the Special Site Navigation web part, there is
one thing that can impact performance. CorasWorks has found that navigation
lists with a large number of views can inhibit performance. As a result, we
recommend that you keep the number of views in your navigation lists to a
minimum. The number of items in a list does not appear to be as much of a
factor as the number of views.
