Install Site Templates

NOTE 1: WSS does not allow the addition of a site template to an individual virtual server without the use of the Site Template Gallery, and the CorasWorks Software Manager cannot work around this.  If you wish to add the templates to an individual virtual server, you must upload them to the Site Template Gallery for the virtual server (Site Settings/Go To Site Administration/Manage Site Template Gallery).

NOTE 2: Due to an aspect of the SharePoint Object Model, the Software Manager does not fully support site templates that include the “-“ character in their names. Because of this aspect, site templates that include the “-“ character can be installed using the Software Manager, but cannot be uninstalled.

To install web parts, make sure the Site Templates tab is selected and then follow these steps.

1.  Select Add Template from the Add/Remove Template area.

2.  In the “Enter path to templates” area, click Browse and locate the directory into which you extracted the zipped site templates.  If you also want to locate site templates in subfolders of the selected directory, select the Search SubFolders checkbox.  Once you have selected the directory, the Software Manager will list all of the available site template files in the “Templates Available For Install” area.

3.  If you want to install all of the site templates, click the Select All checkbox in the “Templates Available For Install” area.  Otherwise, select only the templates you want to install.

4.  Select the Restart IIS check box.

Once the selected site templates are installed, this will prompt the Internet Information Server Services (web server) to shut down and restart without rebooting the physical server.

This improves performance.  WSS and SPS cache large numbers of templates upon startup.  If you add a new template, it is required to restart WSS and SPS to have them cache it.

This is a very important step because templates installed through the Software Manager will not be available until an IIS Reset has been performed.

5.  Click Execute in the “Add/Remove Templates” area.  The selected site templates are installed and available for use.

Make Documentation Available

The Workplace Suite includes comprehensive documentation in the form of online help and in PDF format.  To make sure your workplace architects know where to look for the documentation, CorasWorks recommends that you create a site using the Workplace Manager site template and then upload the following documentation to the Documentation tab of the resulting site:

      Capabilities Guide

      Quick Start Documents

      Solutions Guide

      What’s New Guide

      Workplace Architect’s Guide

All of these documents are located in the Documentation folder of the zip file you downloaded from the CorasWorks site.  Links to the online help are already included on the Documentation tab, so they don’t need to be added.

When this is done, please notify your workplace architects of the availability of the documentation and the URL for the Documentation tab.
