Removing Components

The Software Manager also allows you to uninstall one or more web parts and site templates.  This topic provides the procedures to do this.

NOTE: Remember that the Software Manager allows you to manage the web parts and templates from any company, not just CorasWorks.  So make sure you select only the items you want to remove.

Removing Web Parts

1.   Go to the Web Part Packages tab and select Remove Package in the “Add/Remove Package” area.

2.   In the Virtual Servers area, highlight the virtual server(s) you want to work with.  The installed packages are displayed in the “Packages Available for Removal” area.

3.   Select the web part package(s) you want to remove. Alternatively, you can select the packages (all or a subset) and then select the virtual server (all or a subset) to work with.

4.   Click ‘Execute’.  A confirmation message is displayed.

5.   Click OK to confirm the removal. If you are working with the Winter 2006 version of the Software Manager, the status of the removal is displayed in the area near the bottom of the window.

This process removes the packages from the virtual server, but it does not remove the references from your web sites, so any pages that reference the removed parts will present an error.  To remove the error messages, either re-install the web parts or remove the references to the web parts from the pages.

Removing Site Templates

These procedures explain how to remove site templates from the selected server.  Once a site template has been removed, you will no longer be able to create a site using that template.  However, any sites that already exist based on the removed templates will not be affected.

NOTE: Due to an aspect of the SharePoint Object Model, the Software Manager does not fully support site templates that include the “-“ character in their names. Because of this aspect, site templates that include the “-“ character can be installed using the Software Manager, but cannot be uninstalled.

1.   Go to the Site Templates tab and select Remove Template in the “Add/Remove Template” area.  The installed templates are displayed in the “Templates Available for Removal” area.

2.   Select the site template(s) you want to remove.

3.   Click Execute.  A confirmation message is displayed.

4.   Click OK to confirm the removal.
